Northern Giant Petrel

A Northern Giant Petrel (Macronectes halli ) on the water off Kaikoura. The bird has both wings raised and partly furled as it approaches. The wing edges are trailing in the water. The wing of another giant petrel is in the foreground. Feathers are mottled and the tail is raised. The two joined tube nostrils are clearly visible on the top of the bill.
