Wandering Albatross

Description

A wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) on the water off Kaikoura. Both feet can be seen underwater as it paddles forward. The wings are furled. The bill is a salmon-pinkish colour, with large nostrils on either side. Feathers are white with black markings on the wings. The clear water is turquoise and a small krill can be seen at the lower edge of the photograph. The sea is choppy.
